Frequently Asked Questions
| What is rush? | |
|
Basically rush is a week filled with free food
and events that fraternaties host to introduce people to their organization
and members. If you come to a rush event, there is no obligation to join.
It just gives you an opportunity to check out what we're all about. |
|
| What is Sigma Pi? | |
| The story begins two and a half years
ago when a group of 15 friends that wanted to live together started their
own fraternity. Currently, we boast a diverse group of 40 laid-back guys
who know how to have fun while getting our work done at the same time. Our
organization focuses on brotherhood, academics, athletics, and bomb-ass
parties! |
|
| What is pledging like? | |
| There is an 8-week pledge period full
of activities designed to get you to know your pledge brothers as well as
the guys in the house. In no way are these events degrading; you will not
be asked to do anything that that brothers in the house won't do with you.
Their function is simply to allow you to see the way we interact with each
other. |
|
| Will joining affect my academics? | |
| We believe that academics are a top
priority, so joining our house may actually affect your academics positively.
With a 3.2 average, we are in the top 3 in GPA among other fraternities.
Our house includes a variety of majors including EECS majors, MCB majors
and 4 Haas students (one of whom finished #1 in his BA 10 class) among others. |
|
| Can I get housing for next year? | |
| Affordable, livable housing in Berkeley
is difficult to obtain. Fortunately, we have room in our spacious 10-room
house to accommodate our members. Rent is only $600 for a single; $550 for
a double; and $500 for a triple. Rent pays for your room, food (including
weekly Costco runs and daily dinners with our neighboring sorority), and
social events (like our Date Party, bar nights, and exchanges). |
|
| What is the time commitment like? | |
| About 5-6 hours per week, but you may
find that you'll be voluntarily spending more time at the house just to
hang out. There are weekly Monday meetings that run an hour long where we
discuss current and future events. There are weekly pledge activities that
run 2 hours max. Brotherhood or social activities occur about every other
week. Plus, there is house clean-up every other Sunday where all members
of the house work together on keep the house clean. |
|
| Why should I join Sigma Pi? | |
| To enhance your college experience through:
parties and exchanges, meeting people, academics, intramural sport teams,
brotherhood events, community service, and because we are not your typical
fraternity. Talk to any of us and you'll see why. |
